Lost Property

If you have lost or left property in a London Taxi (Black Cab) there are a few steps you can take to retrieve your possessions.

The vast majority of London Taxi drivers are honest people and go out of their way to return lost property to its rightful owner, but please remember that in some cases the driver may not be aware that any property was left in the back of the Taxi and sometimes small items may have been picked up by the next customer to have used the taxi.

Please remember that your property is your responsibility, please looks after your possessions and make sure that you take everything with you when leaving the Taxi.

Taxi

If you leave anything in a London Taxi (Black Cab) there are a few ways that you can try to get your property returned quickly.

Most London Taxi drivers will endevour to return the property to the customer rather than handing it in to TfL’s Lost Property as it can take around 5 days before the customer can reclaim their property from TfL.

Phones

If you leave your phone in a London Taxi the quickest and easiest way to get it returned is to call your phone, the taxi driver will not be able to unlock your phone to find your contact information but will be able to answer your call, you can then arrange to mutually reclaim your phone.

Other Property

If you have paid by credit or debit card, contact the card processing company as they will have a record of the driver who undertook your journey, they can then pass on your detals to the driver so that they can contact you to arrange return of your property.

If you have the registration number or the license number of the Taxi then you can contact TFL who will be able to put you in touch with the driver to arrange for your property to be returned.

Property found in a London Taxi is handed in at a London police station and forwarded to the TfL Lost Property Office. Property can take up to 5 working days to arrive at the Lost Property Office.
